Removing Door Panels On A 2007 Scion tC

Gaining Access To Repair Power Windows, Door Locks, Side Mirrors and More.

Various plastic covers and screws are removed and then the door panel is pried away. Electrical connectors are disconnected to separate the panel from the door.

Start:

This 2007 Scion tC had three hidden Phillips screws and several snap clips fastening the plastic door panel to the car door.

I started by removing the side view mirror cover, using a tack puller to pry off the plastic cover.

There are two snap clips on the back that hold the cover to the door.

Removal of Side-View Mirror

Removing bolts for side mirror on 2007 Scion tC. First I disconnected the wire connector from the mirror, using the tip of a flat screwdriver to press the tab in. Then I pulled the connector out.

Then I used a 10mm socket and a ratchet to remove the three mounting nuts fastening the mirror to the door frame.

Caution: Have someone hold the mirror. If it falls it may cause damage.

 

I used a very small flat screwdriver placed in the notch to pry open the cover inside the door latch. Removing hidden screw cover behind door handle, Scion.

I placed a tack puller at the lower bottom edge of the pull handle and pried off the outer cover.

I started at this point because it's the least noticeable area, so if the plastic gets damaged slightly it won't be easily seen.

Door pull handle comes apart, Scion. I gently pried all around the door pull cover and then I pulled the cover off.

Removing hidden screw behind 2-part door handle, Scion. I used a Phillips screwdriver to remove the top screw under the cover.

 

Then I removed lower screw. Removing door panel screw, Scion tC.

 

Using putty knife to pry door panel away from car door, 2007 Scion tC. With a rigid putty knife I released the snap clips fastening the plastic door panel to the metal door shell.

 

Pulling outward slightly and upward, I lifted the door panel over the metal lip at the top of the door.

Then the door panel was free except for the wire harness that needed to be disconnected.

Disconnecting electrical connector behind door panel, Scion. To release the wire connector, I had to press the tab in and pull out on the wire.

 

Now that the wire connector is released I was able to completely remove the plastic panel. Electrical connector in car door, Scion.
