This 2000 Mercedes Benz door panel had four mounting screws (red arrows) to be removed and some wiring to be disconnected. The pull handle cover is difficult.

Caution: There are side air bags in the doors on this model. I disconnected the battery as a precaution.

I removed the door lock button first. I turned the button counter clock-wise...

When replacing the door panel I always line-up the lock button shaft and install the button a few turns. It can be difficult to line-up later after the panel put back on.

First: I pushed downward on the cover about two inches from the bottom and pressed my thumb in the center.

Second: I placed masking tape around the seam area and applied gentle prying pressure underneath the end of the cover, and it released.

I removed the button with a tack puller, prying on the bottom and using a piece of masking tape to avoid damage to the leather on the door panel.

The panel was still attached by wiring and the latch cable, giving me an 8 inch area to work in.

At this point the door panel was separated from the car.

If I wanted to remove the side view mirror. I could disconnect the control wire and remove the plastic cover to expose the side view mirror mounting bolts.
