Removing Door Panels On A
2005 Ford Freestar Minivan

Gaining Access To Repair Power Windows, Door Locks, Side Mirrors and More.

The side mirror cover is pried off. Various screws are removed and electrical connectors are disconnected. The door panel is lifted off the car.

Start:

This 2005 Ford Freestar had five screws (red arrows) attaching the plastic door panel to the metal door shell.

I removed the plastic mirror cover by prying at the top of the cover.

I also discovered that removing the side view mirror requires removing the door panel first.

Removing door panel screw near side mirror,2005 Ford Freestar. Using a Phillips screwdriver I removed the screw holding the plastic door panel to the metal door frame.

 

I used a tack puller to pry at the top of the door latch cover. Removing trim around inside door handle.

The red arrows show the clips on the upper part of the cover.

 

I removed two Phillips screws from the bottom of the door pull handle. Removing screws from door pull handle.

 

Prying up switch assembly on armrest of 2005 Ford Freestar. Then I pried up on the pull handle switch plate.

 

I also pushed up on the center of the plate and it finally released. Lifting switch panel from car armrest.

 

Disconnecting switch wiring on door panel, Ford Free Star. I pushed in on the wire connector tab with my thumb and pulled the wires out of each switch.

Screw hidden behind door pull handle. Behind the pull handle area I removed this screw that goes into the metal door frame.

 

Then I removed the two Phillips screws (red arrows) at the bottom of the plastic door panel. Screws at bottom of door panel.

 

Screw at side of door panel on Ford Freestar. The last fastener I removed was this Phillips screw on the side of the plastic panel.

 

Then I pushed up on the door panel and unhooked the mounting tabs and door lock button.

This released the door panel from the metal door shell.

Removing The Side-View Mirror On A Ford Freestar:

Removing side-view mirror on 2005 Ford Freestar. If I needed to replace the side-view mirror, I would remove the three 11mm nuts (red arrows) fastening the mirror to the door.

Then, to prevent the mirror from falling and causing damage, I would have someone hold the mirror while I disconnected the wires.
