Start:

To remove the window glass or power window mechanism, the door panel and speaker must be removed.

After I removed the speaker, I removed the dust cover using a long sharp knife.

To Remove The Front Window:

Remove door window 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

First, the window must be put in the down position.

(The yellow arrow shows the window regulator wiring connector, which only needs to be disconnected if the regulator is being replaced.)

The red arrows show the 10mm bolts that needed to be loosened (not removed) to slide the window away from the rubber retainer.

Then the window can be slid out through the opening at the top of the door.

To Replace Power Window Motor and
Regulator (Sliding Mechanism):

If the power window motor or regulator needs to be replaced, the window glass may be left in the car... if the glass is held in place somehow. The glass can be secured by applying duct tape between the glass and the door frame. Sometimes I use a block of wood to support the bottom of the glass, but this is hard to explain.

I put the window in the up position.

Then I loosened the retainer bolts (red arrows) and braced the glass carefully in the up position.

Next I disconnected the electrical connector. Using a 10mm socket, I loosened the top two bolts and then removed the lower bolts at the bottom of the regulator. Then I slid the top bolts from the mounting slots and maneuvered the regulator out of the door frame, which is not easy. The yellow arrows point to the locations of these bolts.

Auto parts stores often sell the window regulator and motor separately or as one unit. I found it better to purchase them both as one unit. To exchange the motor from one to the other is difficult because they are spring loaded. I have purchased motor/regulator assemblies from aftermarket parts stores for as low as $50 or $60. These parts can cost hundreds of dollars at a dealer.
