Various screws are removed and the switch panel on the door is removed. The door panel is pried away and the door release cable is disconnected.

Start:

Removing the door panel on this 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt is fairly easy except for disconnecting the cable attached to the inside door latch.

The door release latch is attached to the back of the door panel, so it will be disconnected at the last step.

Behind the inside door latch is a cover.

At the top of the cover is a small notch. I used a small flat screwdriver to pry the cover off.

 

Now the screw behind the cover is exposed. Hidden screw behind door handle, Chevy Cobalt. 

 

 Removing screw behind door handle, Cobalt. I used a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the latch area to the metal door frame.

Even though the door release cable is disconnected at the last step, I still had to remove this screw.

Caution: The latch cannot be removed from the plastic door panel from the outside.

 

I used a pry tool and released the clip holding the top of the mirror cover from the metal door frame (green arrow).

Caution:  The mirror cover is attached to the door panel and can only be removed with the door panel.

 Door pull handle and power window door lock swicthes, Cobalt. Next I had to remove the inside door pull handle.

 

I used a small flat screwdriver to remove the cover at the bottom of the pull handle. Removing small plastic cover in door pull on 2007 Chevy Cobalt. 

 

 Hidden screws beneath door pull cup. With a Phillips screwdriver, I removed the two screws at the bottom of the pull handle.

 

Lifting the pull handle/switch assembly, I slid it towards the rear and was able to release the front tab (red arrow) from the door panel. Removing door pull and switch assembly, 2007 Chevy Cobalt. 

 

 Removing the electrical connectors from switch panel in door, Chevy Cobalt. I pressed the release clips on each of the wire connectors and pulled them out of the switch panel.

 Using flat pry bar to pry door panel away form metal door. Using a flat pry tool I released the snap clips separating the plastic door panel from the metal door shell.

 

Then I lifted the door panel up and over the door lock stem and lip of the metal door shell. Lifting door panel off car, Chevy Cobalt. 

 

Disconnecting door release cable from handle, Chevrolet Cobalt 2007.  To remove the door release cable, I pulled the plastic cable sleeve from the latch.

 

Then I removed the metal cable end from the door release handle. Removing door release cable from door, Cobalt.

The plastic sheet can be removed to reach parts inside the door, such as the power door lock or power window mechanisms.
