Slide plates are lifted up, the
headlight assembly is moved forward and the turn signal
bulb and marker bulbs are removed. The headlight bulbs
are removed and replaced.
This 2006 GMC Envoy has
slide plates that need to be pulled up to
allow the headlight assembly to come out of it's
mounting panel.
Sometimes
these slide plates need penetrating oil so they
can slide easily, due to road dirt and salt.
I used a long flat
screwdriver for leverage and gently pried up
on the end tab of the slide plate.
These slide plates
only need to slide up ½ inch to 1 inch to release.

I then used the long flat screwdriver to push
the release tab in and free it up on turn signal bulb
socket and turned the socket clockwise.
The yellow circle shows the outboard slide
plate in the up position.
The turn signal bulb is a number
#3357 clear.
Then I released
the wire connector on the back of the headlight
assembly by pulling up on the tab and pulling
out the electrical connector (green arrow).
To remove the marker light socket (green
circle), I turned the
socket and released it.
At this point the
headlight assembly was completely disconnected
from the car.
The side marker bulb is number a #94 clear.
View of back
of headlight assembly, the green arrows show the
headlight bulbs. They can be released by turning
the bulb and then disconnecting the wire
connector.
Before removing the bulbs, the
plastic caps need to be pulled off.
Caution:
When handling
headlight bulbs, grab the bulb with a tissue
or a piece of plastic. The oil on your skin
can cause the bulb to overheat and burn out
prematurely.
Headlight bulb numbers: Low beam
#9006, high beam #9005
